For the first time in almost a decade, an FM radio station is located inside Hendricks County, Indiana, broadcasting under the call letters WYRZ-LP. During the most recent FCC open application period, The Hendricks County Educational Media Corporation (HCEMC – a non profit organization) applied for an FM license. The application was submitted in November, 2013, and permission to start the station was granted on February 5th, 2014. Our new spot on the FM dial is 98.9, with a 100 watt transmitter.
The studio is located at 701 N. Green Street in Brownsburg. Bruce Quinn, manager of WHUM in Columbus, Indiana, was instrumental in guiding the HCEMC during the application process. Quinn was at one time the owner of WKLU, when that studio was located in Brownsburg. WYRZ is known throughout Hendricks County for carrying high school sports, local news, locally produced programs, as well as a Solid Gold Top 40 music from the late 60’s to the mid 80’s.
WYRZ is listener supported and owned by a non-profit organization.
